Clinical Assistant Professor & Assistant Chair for Research Innovation
Communication Sciences and Disorders

The Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is currently looking for a full-time faculty member at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. This individual will also hold the position of Assistant Chair (Research Innovation) within the department. The Assistant Chair will help foster a culture of research excellence and innovation in CSD. This includes working closely with faculty, staff, and students to develop and implement strategies for expanding research initiatives and collaborative, inter-departmental and interdisciplinary funding opportunities. In addition, the Assistant Chair will play a key role in establishing industry-academic partnerships, facilitating technology transfer, and supporting research systems and clinical translation. Candidates for this position should possess a terminal degree (PhD) in a relevant field such as Audiology, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, or a related discipline.

Employment term: One (1) year appointment beginning September 1, 2023, renewable on an annual basis.

Qualifications:
1. PhD in a relevant field (e.g., audiology, biomedical engineering, neuroscience) and/or AuD
2. Significant experience in research administration, grant writing, and project management.
3. Experience organizing, leading, and facilitating collaborative and interdisciplinary research efforts.
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
5. Experience with education and workforce development related to research and innovation.
6. Ability to think creatively and strategically to develop and implement new research initiatives.

Duties:
* Work closely with the leadership of the Knowles Center for Clinical and Basic Science in Hearing and Its Disorders to stimulate research on the frontiers of audiology, promote interdisciplinary approaches, interdepartmental collaborations, provide exemplary clinical services, and educate scientists of exceptional ability.
* Teach undergraduate and graduate courses consistent with expertise and program/departmental instructional needs.
* Contribute towards, manage, and support large collaborative grants, clinical trials, and research programs.
* Provide administrative support to researchers, including assistance with grant proposal development and submission.
* Enhance educational curriculum by integrating research opportunities into the curriculum and promoting student involvement in translational research.
* Participate in departmental strategic planning and budgeting.
* Develop and implement strategies for expanding research and educational initiatives and funding opportunities.

Salary: Competitive, depending on qualifications and experience.

The Department: The Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Northwestern University is widely recognized for its excellence in research, education, and clinical training in the field of communication sciences and disorders. NUCASLL also serves as a training ground for future clinical professionals while participating in innovative clinical and translational research.

Knowles Hearing Center: The Hugh Knowles Center for Clinical and Basic Science in Hearing and Its Disorders is dedicated to making advancements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of hearing disorders. The center achieves its goals by stimulating research on the frontiers of audiology, promoting a broad interdisciplinary approach to hearing and its disorders, providing exemplary clinical services to individuals with hearing impairment, and educating scientists of exceptional ability. By focusing on these areas, the center contributes to the ongoing understanding and improvement of hearing health.
