Position Description:
Purpose To work directly with hospital personnel to identify and support individuals and their families impacted by gun violence. Scope: To provide supportive services to crime victims and their family members. Hospital Responders are notified when a victim of a gunshot wound, stabbing or other assault-related injury is taken to Partnered Hospitals. A Hospital Responder is expected to report immediately to the hospital where they will stay with the victim and actively work to de-escalate traumatized and angry family members and friends who may be planning retaliatory violence. Reporting to the Outreach Supervisor and Director of Programs. the Hospital Responder will help the victim and their family at the hospital cope with their shock and their grief, while working with the 414Life team to identify and intervene with others in the neighborhood most likely to instigate retaliation. The overall goal is to keep the peace and prevent further shootings and deaths. Primary Functions:
